Miss Colombia thanks fans after crowning mistake
He was then forced to walk back on stage and announce his mistake naming Miss Philippines, announced earlier as 1 runner-up, as the pageant victor.
“And my destiny was this”, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez wrote of Sunday’s debacle on Instagram. “I want to thank each and everyone of you who have sent messages of support and strength”, Gutierrez wrote next to a picture from the pageant.
Emphasising on the role of destiny and fate, she went on to say, “Your destiny is written for you”.
Breaking her silence on Harvey’s blunder, Miss Colombia said in a video, “Everything happens for a reason, so I’m happy”.
“Hilton voiced out his support to Wurtzbach, saying she deserved to win, and added that “losing is the best thing that ever happened to Colombia”, congratulations to Philippines”, he added.
Gutierrez posted a photo of her wearing the Miss Universe crown with the caption “Por siempre tu Miss Universo!”
Mark Shapiro, the chief content officer of WME IMG, which put on this year’s Miss Universe pageant, believes Steve Harvey deserves a second chance. “He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself”, Shapiro said.

Harvey said it was his mistake and he would take responsibility for not reading the card correctly that named Ms Wurtzbach the victor and Ms Arevalo the first runner-up.
Harvey had told reporters at a press conference after the show that, “The dishonorable thing would be to just leave it like it was”.
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez has spoken out about the mix up at the Miss Universe 2015 competition in an emotional online post.
The TV host has also repeatedly conveyed his apologies to the fans and explained that it was an honest mistake on his part. “They were all fantastic”, he continued to tweet.
