No Hulk Movie Because Marvel & Universal Don’t Get Along Says Mark Ruffalo
“I think it’s really exciting where we could go with it. Now I feel like we’re kind of in No Man’s Land”, said Ruffalo.
Ruffalo talked to Aint It Cool News’s Quint about his significant 2015 – including non Age of Ultron projects like Spotlight and the Golden Globe nominated Infinity Polar Bear – with the talk eventually getting to Thor: Ragnarok Hulk teasers.
The Screen Actors Guild Award winning actor also spoke about the possibility of a solo Hulk movie, of which he is highly doubtful. After the wanton array of Hulk-caused global destruction depicted in Age of Ultron, Banner initiates a memorable self-imposed exile by way of a stolen Quinjet at the end of the film.
“It’s very subtle, but the Banner/Hulk consciousness is beginning to meld a little bit”. Really, the Hulk should be the social butterfly of the Marvel Universe. So until theres one of these regime changes that Ruffalo speaks of, fans will have to make due with the current circumstances. “But I know for a fact in that everyone is holding out hope in that one day we can do it. But the aspect of the relationship right now, it’s a little prohibitive”. Along with everything happening in Phase Three and being planned for Phase Four, Marvel likely doesnt consider another Hulk movie a priority, choosing to keep him in the game through other movies. “I’ve been sworn to secrecy, to the point where they don’t even tell me”.
“They definitely don’t want people to know what was going on for a while”, Ruffalo admitted. “Marvel and Universal are just not having a good time together right now”.
Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to open in theaters July 28, 2017.
Should Ruffalo’s ruminations prove to be the direction Marvel takes the character, will it be time for his skin to change? “But right now, it doesn’t look particularly promising”, he cautioned.
