Light seen moving across sky in Ventura, Las Vegas
The mystery light was reported by dozens on social media, including those in Indio, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Corona, and Irvine. Astronomy experts say that the public shouldn’t be surprised upon seeing such things, since the universe is a marvel.
He said because it was seen from Sacramento to Las Vegas and northern Nevada it was probably flying in the sky between Las Vegas and Reno.
“Fireballs occur when small – basketball-sized or Volkswagen-sized – asteroids enter the Earth’s atmosphere and disintegrate from the atmospheric friction”, Yeomans said in an email.
The U.S. Strategic Command confirmed the bright streaking object was in fact Russian space debris.
There were multiple reports through social media of similar scenes in Southern California and Arizona.
The Nevada Highway Patrol went to investigate after receiving a report that one of the objects had made impact near Mountain Springs, but when they arrived on the scene found nothing. Whether deemed a UFO, meteor, fireball or clearly space junk – the streaking lights in the sky definitely caught the attention of those on the ground. The military said that light was an unarmed missile from a submarine off the Southern California coast.
