Odell Beckham Jr. to have appeal of suspension heard Wednesday
Carolina Panthers’ cornerback Josh Norman is going to be fined for his part in the fighting with Giants’ wideout Odell Beckham, according to reports.
After a tweet by ESPN’s Ron Jaworski claimed that the 23-year-old superstar had successfully appealed a one game suspension, various other outlets later released that the suspension had been upheld. Practice squad players don’t typically travel to road games, but that group-and injured receiver Kelvin Benjamin-were invited to go on this trip.
Beckham will be reinstated on Monday, December 28.
Asked if he was aware of the pregame “stuff”, Coughlin said, “I was standing on the sideline when the individual went by with the baseball bat”. At that point in time, I’ll be sure to make them understand. “And that’s the only thing I’ll say about that incident”. “That is a responsibility I accept and take seriously”. “But I will defend the young man and the quality of his person”.
Norman was fined $26,044 for his role in the confrontations.
The Giants head coach insisted Beckham was provoked for his actions against the Panthers.
The NFL announced Monday it would suspend Beckham for one game for his actions against the Panthers, citing “multiple violations of safety-related playing rules”. Nevertheless, Rivera was heard apologizing to Giants coach Tom Coughlin at the end of Sunday’s game: “I’m sorry about my guys’ behavior, coach”, Rivera said.
“I hope the league office gets a chance to review the film and see what they can do, because players like that don’t deserve to be in the game, ” Norman said after the game. He has a base salary of $893,000 and would have lost $55,813 for being suspended for Sunday night’s game. His absence could be a huge factor for a team barely in playoff contention.
Norman and Beckham tangled from the earliest moments of Sunday’s game, when Norman slammed Beckham to the ground after one of the Giants’ first plays. He says he doesn’t know what the two talked about but said Beckham was “shaken up” and “surprised” after Ball’s “legitimate” threats.
Norman (one of the most intriguing stories of the Panthers’ impressive season thanks to his penchant for using movie characters as weekly motivation) and Beckham (he of the otherworldly catching abilities) matched up Sunday, as was expected. It’s not fair. It’s not justice. “If you’re naïve enough to think that way then you better do some soul-searching yourself”.
Diggs (693), Rudolph (442) and Wallace (440) combine for 1,575 yards, not even 200 more than Beckham alone.
