Charles Woodson Announces He Will Retire Following 2015 Season
Wow, where to start with Charles Woodson as one of the all-time Raider greats announced yesterday that 2015 would be his last season in the NFL.
Oakland Raiders safety addressed the media on Monday, announcing that he will be retiring after the 2015 National Football League season.
Woodson informed the media that various Raiders teammates have attempted to convince him to stick around for another year, but he simply could not make that promise. The veteran had his way with him on that day, but it’d be one of few times that’d happen in Woodson’s career.
“An incredible career, man. It goes beyond words”.
After winning the Heisman trophy at the University of MI in 1997, Woodson was selected with the 4th overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Raiders.
Woodson, with offense or no, is going down as one of the best to play in the secondary, and will get something of a special farewell from Raiders fans, playing in the final home game of the season against the San Diego Chargers.
In a career that we’re quick to define by those 65 career thefts, good for fifth all-time, Woodson’s two interceptions that season might not stand out, but he was a constant factor, registering 92 tackles and forcing five fumbles. ‘Come back next year, I know you’re coming back next year, ‘ and I would love to, because it’s what I feel about the organization, where I feel like it’s headed.
Woodson said that he had always wanted to intercept Manning before he called it quits.
“I woke up that morning and for whatever reason, I knew it”, Woodson said.
“I think it has more to do with how the independent doctors evaluate him and how our training staff works with them as far as the evaluation”, O’Brien said. But he could’ve had another one in Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. He earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors as well as four Pro Bowl nods and an All-Pro selection during his initial run in Oakland. “He was laying on me and I had thrown a completion and it was kind of like, ‘man, I watched him and Brett Favre and I’m actually playing with these guys'”.
The reason why he decided to make his retirement announcement at this point in time was because he wanted Oakland Raiders fans to watch him in person one final time. You won’t find many players on that ’99 All-Pro team that have played relevant football in the last decade, let alone last week.
“He should be fine”, Del Rio said. “Right now, it’ll be about the family, and then we’ll go from there”.
-Defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. left the game with a neck injury after the first series.
Thursday night’s game will surely be emotional in Oakland.
The Oakland Raiders took a flier on David Amerson this fall – and haven’t regretted it since.
