Woman died from blood clot in lung, police say
Only a few hours earlier, Dawson had arrived at Calhoun Liberty Hospital via ambulance Sunday night after experiencing stomach pain along with the woman telling she was having difficulty breathing.
Dawson’s family told CBS affiliate WCTV in Tallahassee she used an oxygen tank all the time. The officer placed handcuffs on Dawson and charged her with disorderly conduct and trespassing.
They say a nurse refused to give them Dawson’s oxygen tank because they had found she was breathing fine. Attaway said although they could not speak to Dawson’s specific medical conditions, she said blood clots are hard to detect and impossible to treat.
Dawson collapsed while being escorted in handcuffs to a police auto.
Mallory told the Democrat the officer uncuffed her and hospital staff were summoned, where they checked her vital signs.
According to interviews conducted with medical staff and the available audio from the officer’s in vehicle camera, Ms. Dawson had a pulse and was alive when transferred back to the care of the doctor and hospital.
The Calhoun Liberty Hospital is responding after a woman in their care died. “They just get mad at her”, she told the newspaper. “If she don’t think it’s right, she’s going to tell them and they don’t like that”. The family plans to file charges against the hospital and the Blountstown Police Department over Dawson’s death.
Police say a Florida woman who collapsed after police arrested her for refusing to leave a Florida hospital when doctors discharged her died from a blood clot in her lung.
‘The most reasonable thing to do is to let her sit there and be able to settle down until she felt well. “Instead, she is forcibly removed and put in cuffs”, the family’s attorney, Daryl Parks, told AP. The early facts of this case should cause a great concern for everyone’. Nevertheless within two hours, Barbara Dawson would be dead. “They bought a stretcher out there and took her back in the hospital”.
Elaborated the aunt: ‘If they bring her some medicine, she wants to know what it is, what it is for.
The NAACP held an emergency meeting on Tuesday to consider the incident. That video, along with a police report, will be released before Christmas, according to the Democrat.
“If her death was wrongfully determined, then somehow, someway, there needs to be some sort of recompense to the family”, Dale Landry of the Florida NAACP said in a statement.
