Montreal confirm Drogba Chelsea talks
The secret could be kept no more: Didier Drogba might be leaving the Montreal Impact to join Chelsea FC and be part of the staff as the London club tries to revive itself.
He was present at Stamford Bridge for the club’s 3-1 win over Sunderland, sitting next to Hiddink and owner Roman Abramovich in Chelsea’s first match after Mourinho’s dismissal.
Drogba still has a year left on his contract at Montreal Impact, but is being lined up for a return to Stamford Bridge.
Drogba, who is contracted to Montreal until the end of the 2016 season, has scored 11 goals in 11 appearances for the MLS club since August.
“We are now in contact with Didier Drogba and Chelsea”, the club tweeted on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time).
“He is a legend, both in and (outside) of the club”, he added.
Chelsea’s new coach is said to be going after Drogba, apparently offering him the position of assistant coach.
“We want to get important players involved with the club they care about”.
“We are willing to accommodate him”. The only thing is at the moment is that he’s playing in Montreal. “This situation is out of our control”.
“Other people have to deal with that, not me”.
One of the biggest reasons for Chelsea’s success last season was the signing of Didier Drogba and the difference he made in the dressing room. All the big clubs, and the smaller ones, have these specific guys, figures, who can go into whatever they like – coach, ambassador, manager – but they must be given the opportunity to do so.
