‘Miss Colombia Should Be Miss Universe 2015!’ – 24000 People Sign Petition For
If you didn’t catch it, host Steve Harvey accidentally got the first runner-up and Miss Universe victor switched.
She hesitated before walking up to center stage, where Gutierrez stood with her crown, bouquet and “Miss Universe” sash.
When asked about the awkward incident, she said it was: “Very 2015!” As well as for Pia Miss Philippines that she didn’t have her real crowning moment.
Last year, the victor of the Miss Florida pageant had to give back her crown following a vote-tabulation error that was noticed days later.
Considering the genuine grace and humility that Gutierrez has already displayed throughout this entire affair, it’s likely that Miss Colombia would probably forgive Harvey for that, too.
A beauty pageant victor has been hit with online abuse, as fans mistake her for Miss Universe ‘s Miss Germany. Hating Miss Philippines won’t make you pretty.
“I’m happy! I’m happy for all what I did to [reach] this dream”, Gutierrez said. “Are you going to take the crown from me now?’ And they (said), ‘No, no, you’re really the victor'”.
He softened his tone later that morning in an interview on NBC’s Today Show, calling Harvey a “great guy” who handled it well. “The photos are there to prove it. To me, as a Colombian, she is still Miss Universe”, he said.
Now she has reportedly apologised for her comments, with the Miss Universe Germany team issuing a statement on their official Facebook page – shortly before the entire page was pulled down.
Our source said there is “no way” the mistake was done for publicity, as some news outlets have questioned, but could be chalked up to Harvey simply being under-rehearsed. “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”, he wrote.
Knowing that he would take enormous heat for the moment, Steve Harvey apologized again on Twitter mere minutes after it happened with several tweets to viewers.
The competition started with women between the ages of 19 and 27 representing 80 countries.
