Seahawks tie franchise record with 7 players heading to Pro Bowl
Inexplicably, none are named Doug Baldwin.
This is the fifth consecutive season that Seattle has had at least five representatives in the Pro Bowl and it ties the franchise record with seven selections (also 1984, 2005).
Seattle’s other Pro Bowl picks are DE Michael Bennett, LB Bobby Wagner, KR Tyler Lockett, and three members of the Legion of Boom, FS Earl Thomas, SS Kam Chancellor and CB Richard Sherman. The other alternates are kicker Steven Hauschka, injured running back Marshawn Lynch and left tackle Russell Okung. St. Louis plays its final two games on the road, where it has dropped four straight to fall to 1-5. Since joining the Seahawks out of Stanford in the 2011 National Football League season, his previous career highs were 66 receptions, 825 receiving yards, and five touchdown.
It was a tough 2015 season for the Seahawks, who started with a 2-4 record, before winning seven of their last eight games which include an active five-game winning streak.
Wagner is second on the Seahawks with 101 tackles (56 solo) and is the second player in franchise history (Terry Beeson, 1977-80) to record four consecutive 100-tackle seasons. But Avril has blown up key plays in nearly every game this season by chasing quarterbacks, knocking down passes, flying past blockers and crunching ball carriers at the line of scrimmage.
Avril, who has 7.5 sacks, also has not made the game and said recently: “I think it would be cool for me personally, just for the simple fact that I’ve done it all”.
Russell Wilson is the lone Pro-Bowler on offense. Each group represents an equal one-third of the total balloting.
Stewart joined quarterback Cam Newton, fullback Mike Tolbert, tight end Greg Olsen, center Ryan Kalil, guard Trai Turner, defensive tackle Kawann Short, linebackers Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly and cornerback Josh Norman as selections.
The receivers who did make the Pro Bowl are Odell Beckham of the New York Giants, Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals, A.J. Green of the Cincinnati Bengals, DeAndre Hopkins of the Houston Texans, Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions, Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons, and Brandon Marshall of the New York Jets. Typically, teams playing in the Super Bowl don’t go to the game, though, so Baldwin may be happier practicing for the big game that week.
