Republicans Lash Out At Hillary Clinton’s ISIS Comment
Appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump pounced.
JEWEL SAMAD/AFP/Getty Images Hillary Clinton set her sights on Donald Trump over the GOP front-runner’s comments on Muslims during Saturday night’s debate.
Trump was referring to Clinton’s assertion that the billionaire’s rhetoric on Muslims, particularly his plan to ban non-American Muslims from entering the United States, was becoming a potent recruiting tool for ISIS.
“Hillary Clinton will not be apologizing to Donald Trump for correctly pointing out how his hateful rhetoric only helps ISIS recruit more terrorists”, spokesman Brian Fallon said, using an acronym for the militant group.
“There is nothing they want more than to be able to claim that the United States is against Islam and against Muslims and that then lights an even bigger fire for them to make their propaganda claims through social media and other ways”.
Clinton’s campaign also sent Business Insider a tweet from an alleged ISIS sympathizer’s account that commented on Trump’s refusal to rule out the potential creation of registry for Muslim-Americans. Her campaign later said they were not aware of a specific video, but that Trump’s comments about Muslims are helping jihadists. He also said Clinton was “crooked” and “not a president”.
Mrs Clinton, who was shielded by Mr Sanders when he was asked in the first Democratic debate about her email scandal, returned the favour on Saturday night. “There’s no such video”, Trump said.
“No @HillaryClinton – We are not “where we need to be” in fight against ISIS”, Republican hopeful Jeb Bush, who has single-digit support for his candidacy among Republicans, wrote on Twitter.
“We firmly believe that Donald Trump is doing the work of ISIS”, said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
Neither the White House nor National Security Council would back up Clinton’s assertion, officials saying they are aware of no examples when asked by ABC News.
“I think this is fair to say that starting in January, I will have my not so secret weapon”, she said. “I think this was an egregious breach”, Mr. Podesta said.
A CBS News Battleground tracker poll released Sunday found Hillary Clinton is leading in Iowa, but Sanders is leading Clinton in New Hampshire by 14 percentage points. She’s a liar and everybody knows that.
