Man charged in shooting of police officers in Odessa, Texas
Authorities say multiple Odessa police officers have been shot while attempting to serve a warrant at the apartment complex that ended with the suspect being taken into custody.
Two Odessa Police Department officers were hurt following a shooting in Odessa on Wednesday morning.
Just before 9 p.m. Wednesday night, Garza came out of the residence and was taken into custody. “At this time the suspect has barricaded himself inside and the public is asked to please avoid the area as a potential threat still remains”.
Roads were blocked off in the neighborhood amid the standoff, and surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution.
Odessa police released the names of the officers shot as Sgt. Pedro “Pete” Gonzales and Cory Wester. Garza surrendered, was treated at a hospital and then taken to jail. No attorney was listed for Garza, whose bond was not yet set.
Odessa SWAT, Odessa Crisis Negotiation, DPS, Texas Rangers and Federal Bureau of Investigation have responded to the scene.
