Justin Bieber throws support behind NHS Choir for Christmas No. 1
Biebs, who is safe to say isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, has redeemed himself massively by requesting that the general public buy an NHS Choir fundraiser single.
With just days to go before Christmas, Sarah is one of the voices which can be heard on the song Bridge Over You, which topped the iTunes charts last week, and is now battling Justin Bieber for the top spot on Christmas Day.
Proceeds from sales of the NHS choir’s song, a remake of Simon and Garfunkel’s A Bridge Over Troubled Water and Coldplay’s Fix You, will go to charities including Mind and Carers UK.
Now NHS bosses have reached out to Justin’s fans and urged them to cut the singer out of their lives for the next few days to help push the choir to number one.
Well, that same race is now underway, and though it’s reportedly the closest one in years, Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” is maintaining the lead atop the charts. It’s Christmas. @Choir_NHS good luck This is what it’s all about.
Justin Bieber’s single “Love Yourself” was around 7,000 sales ahead of the choir on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Stormzy’s single is also gaining traction, having managed to climb to number seven, backed by a big online campaign pushing #ShutUpForXMasNo1.
“I think staff will light up inside”.
Visit www.nhsno1.com for more information on the choir and to buy the charity single. Other contenders include Adele’s comeback “Hello”, although it is unlikely to pick up traction and overtake Bieber or the NHS Choir.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive of the Official Charts Company, said: “As well as climaxing on Christmas Day for just the fourth time in history, this year’s race for the festive Number One is looking like one of the closest ever”.
It will be announced on Radio 1 on Christmas Day with Greg James.
