Boston Chipotle cleared to reopen after 136 get norovirus
In addition, all 25 employees were tested for the norovirus.
Previous night, Inspectional Services Department Commissioner William “Buddy” Christopher Jr. told the Herald that they will release the hold on their license effective from Wednesday morning, which means they can reopen if they want to.
More than 120 people, many of them Boston College students, were sickened after eating at the chain. The violations were meat heated below 140 degrees, an employee that was sick during their shift and multiple reports of foodborne illness from that location.
Health officials determined within three days of the outbreak that it was a norovirus that sickened about 80 people who ate at a Boston-area Chipotle Mexican Grill during the first weekend in December. “There’s a sick policy that’s in place at chipotle and with the food code, when you display certain symptoms of a sickness you must not work”, he said.
Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold said the company is resupplying the restaurant. The CDC is also investigating another E.coli outbreak of a different, rare strain that may be linked to Chipotle.
After Chipotle’s CEO promised that the Boston restaurant would be “completely sanitized”, all of the workers were tested for norovirus and the manager was sacked.
The CDC hasn’t identified exactly what triggered the E. coli cases. She says all employees at the restaurant have completed a food safety training program.
