Woman Died of Blood Clot After Removed From Hospital
Relatives said Tuesday the 57-year-old was possibly mistreated by police and by the hospital staff, who they say refused to provide proper medical care.
Let’s unpack this Christmas horror story. Dawson was being charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct. He said Dawson, however, felt like she was still having breathing issues and wanted to stay.
Relatives told the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper that she felt she needed more medical care. The early facts of this case should cause a great concern for everyone’. After she was declared healthy and discharged, Dawson insisted that she was still unwell, demanded further treatment, and refused to leave the hospital.
According to reports, doctors told Dawson that she was in good condition and should leave the hospital, but she refused, arguing that she still had pain. The officer removed her handcuffs and called for medical help and she was transported back to the hospital.
Donar told WCTV that hospital staff unhooked Dawson from her oxygen tank before the officer escorted her out. “However, a doctor readmitted her inside the hospital”. “They got the doctor to come out there and get a pulse of her and they couldn’t get no pulse”.
Some of those visits, too, had ended in conflict – Donar told the Democrat that staff at Calhoun Liberty had called the police on Dawson before, and once kicked her off the premises when she brought a friend in for treatment.
The family has hired an attorney and is preparing to file a lawsuit.
The medical examiner’s office in Panama City found that Dawson died from a blood clot due to being excessively overweight, Mallory said in a statement Wednesday morning.
“They did their best trying to save her”, said Ruth Attaway, administrator and CEO of the 25-bed hospital.
Whilst being escorted off hospital premises Dawson repeatedly pled for her oxygen tank.
Blountstown police said they would continue an internal investigation and that they have requested an independent probe by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
When police arrived at the jail, the arresting officer opened the door and Dawson, still in handcuffs, collapsed. That video, along with a police report, will be released before Christmas, according to the Democrat.
The Calhoun-Liberty County chapter of the NAACP held an emergency meeting Tuesday. He says they won’t have final answers until autopsy results come in.
Landry said he and others are glad state law enforcement officers are getting involved, ‘but we strongly believe the death was due to negligence by the police department and hospital’.
