Payton: Brees day-to-day with foot injury

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees’ ability to play the final two games of the regular season could be marred by injury.

Even before it was reported by ESPN’s Ed Werder on Tuesday afternoon that Brees tore the plantar fascia in his right foot in the second quarter of Monday night’s 35-27 loss to the Detroit Lions, questions about Brees and his salary-cap figure of $30 million for 2016 were a hot subject. Brandin Cooks caught 10 passes for 124 yards and 1 touchdown.

“If you go back and look at the first game to now where he is at, I think he has more ownership of the offense and there is a certain comfort level”, coach Gus Bradley said. We can all take solace in the fact that there are only two more weeks in the season and maybe next year the team will acquire better players to mix in with the young guns. From a passer-rating standpoint, Monday night was the best game of Stafford’s career with a rating of 148.6. The Saints signed the former LSU standout in early November as an insurance policy when Luke McCown was lost for the season.

Detroit were beaten by the Rams 21-14 last week but the Lions picked up their fifth win of the season courtesy of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who completed 22-of-25 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns. “Garrett has been here as well for the whole year”. Blowing a chance to score a touchdown from the Lions’ 1-yard line seconds before halftime that would have left them with an 11-point deficit going to the locker room didn’t help things. Next on the list are Kurt Warner and Peyton Manning, who both needed 97 games.

“So to avoid the situation and set of circumstances, let’s just eliminate it. So that’s what we’re going to do”.

It keeps you in that ballpark, it gives your play-action pass a little bit more credence because they have to bite on it because they can’t just disrespect the run. He just became the fourth quarterback in National Football League history to throw for 60,000 career yards on Monday night. Since the 2003 season with San Diego when he missed five starts, Brees hasn’t missed more than one start in a season. Quin has been knicked up here and there and played with an ankle injury that required surgery following the 2013 season.

“Senio is one of the smartest guys on our team”, coach Sean Payton said. “I don’t know if that pertains to his specific injury”.
