South African Preacher Who Fed His Congregation Snakes Reportedly Arrested
Prophet Penuel Mnguni, 24, the controversial pastor who fed his congregation live snakes, was arrested over the weekend.
Pictures of Mnguni dangling a live snake before dropping it into a congregant’s mouth caused a stir last week‚ with the congregant saying it tasted like chocolate.
Mnguni apparently told those gathered: “God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden with no clothes on, and because they had faith in the Lord, they didn’t even know they were undressed”.
“He (the pastor) has now been charged with animal cruelty and will appear in court on Monday”.
Mnguni who, at a point, made his congregants eat a weave off a female church member’s head because, as he said, the weave had turned into nutritious food that would do no harm to their health, is following the footsteps of Rabboni Ministries’ leader Prophet Lesego Daniel, who made headlines a few years ago for making his congregation eat grass.
“The capturing, selling and certainly killing of indigenous snakes is illegal and we would like to make sure that he is stopped in his tracks”.
“We have asked other pastors to help raise awareness against animal cruelty, and if snakes or other animals are abused in this way, the SPCA will act”.
“We spend our whole lives trying to capture and remove the snakes from people’s homes and set them free in a safe environment”. Imagine being eaten alive!
Despite Mnguni’s absence, Sunday’s service continued.
The member said that in defence of the preacher when he was arrested outside his church last Saturday night. All laws, constitution and bi-lows are powerless; if they want to arrest me let them also arrest (Nandos). All I am doing is what God has called on me to do.
