West Bank Stabbing Wounds 2 Israelis
Israeli police have fatally two Palestinians after they reportedly stabbed Jewish pedestrians outside Jerusalem’s Old City.
Two other Palestinians were killed in separate incidents, including an attack by a motorist on Israeli troops, with one soldier lightly wounded. Samri said he had apparently been hurt by police gunfire at the assailants.
A police statement later said an initial inquiry showed the stabber was still trying to attack people even after being shot, and that the man who beat him was trying to get the knife out of his hand.
A police spokesperson said the incident occurred in the afternoon near the Old City’s Jaffa Gate, a popular tourist spot.
Since mid-September, a wave of Palestinian attacks have killed 19 Israelis and an American student.
The fourth Palestinian, who died in clashes with the Israeli military in the Qalandiya refugee camp in the West Bank, was hit in the head by live fire, according to Ahmad Bitawi, the director of Ramallah hospital.
A third Israeli was wounded in the stabbing.
The arson, and delays in solving the case, although Israel has several suspects in custody, contributed to the outbreak of the worst Palestinian street violence in years.
The second incident was near Hebron in the southern West Bank, where a Palestinian allegedly tried to attack soldiers with a screwdriver. Both attackers were armed with knives, police said.
At least 131 Palestinians have also been killed.
Israeli leaders have expressed outrage at the video. A police spokesman told a local media outlet the video is being investigated. Shin Bet said the militants operated an explosives laboratory in Abu Dis, and planned to carry out suicide bombings in Israel.
While such stabbings have become less frequent in recent weeks, they have continued despite increased Israeli security measures. There was no immediate comment from Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip.
