‘Star Wars’ fan in NY legally changes name to Darth Vader
Children carried toy lightsabers to a church in Berlin and some of the congregation dressed up as Darth Vader to mark the release of the new Star Wars movie with a service yesterday. “I wanted a separation from myself and my past”.
This isn’t the first time someone has taken on the Star Wars-inspired moniker; a Ukrainian man with the same name (Darth Vader, of course) ran for mayor in Odessa, Ukraine under his own political party, called – wait for it – the Internet Party. He says he has always been a fan of the franchise and says he has always admired Darth Vader’s strength and leadership.
He likes to test his toughness by competing in half-marathons and other endurance events. “It keeps my mind off doctor’s appointments, of all that I’ve gone through, am going through and will continue to go through”.
Vader’s adult life hasn’t been easy either – as he has been battling leukemia and a bone marrow disorder for 13 years.
No word on whether we’ll see a winged Vader helmet on the sidelines next season, but Harbaugh has nearly certainly tried to use the Force to choke somebody. The Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed to The Associated Press that Welch really did change his name.
