Mentally it’s not there – Woodson explains retirement decision
Del Rio offered a thin smile when asked whether Woodson would be available to play wide receiver or return punts over the last two games of the season.
Nevertheless, that hasn’t deterred media members from making the rounds in the Raiders locker room asking Woodson’s teammates to weigh in on his retirement from the National Football League.
Woodson is hopeful his final game at the O.co Coliseum will not be the Raiders’ last appearance in Oakland.
Quarterback Derek Carr said uncertainty will be a factor of how the Raiders react.
“Crisis time is here for the Broncos, who lose a second straight game and now find not only their divisional title hopes in peril, but their playoff chances suddenly in question”, says Newsday’s Bob Glauber. “Kind of in a way; but a couple of weeks ago it hit me that this would be it. It is important for me to let Raider Nation know now”, the 39-year-old said in an emotional press release. Upon his return, Woodson took to creating an “O” out of his arms in reference to the stadium name. The Raiders could be moving after the season, so it might be the final game the Raiders play at that venue. You can read out numbers about Woodson until you are blue in the face, but his influence come beyond statistical comparisons.
“I’m pretty sure he’ll do something”, Amerson said. “He just takes the game really seriously”.
Somehow, too, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Woodson make one last heroic play against the Chargers to secure a victory and give his fans a farewell gift.
“I woke up that morning and for whatever reason”, Woodson said. I can only imagine the complexities of emotions for a pro athlete. That’s something you can always cherish because he does it at the highest level.
But Schaaf said Davis is the only owner among those three teams who wants his team to stay where it is as long as there’s an agreement for a new stadium. “He’s meant a lot to this game, [but me] just being around him, being able to talk to him about life, it’s bigger than football”. The over/under total for the game has been set at 47 points.
Impressively, despite this lack of a supporting cast, Rivers has still managed a 0.16 Passing NEP per drop back that ranks him as the 11th best rate in the league among passers with 200 or more attempts. All three teams are on the rise, especially defending NFC champion Seattle. “I did drive him into the ground”. Woodson, a “two-way player” who played both offense and defense, won the Heisman Trophy in the same year, becoming the second, behind Leon Hart of Notre Dame (1949) to win the award.[1] To date, he is the last player to win the Heisman who was not a running back or quarterback.
That was part of the heyday of Oakland sports when the Athletics, Warriors and Raiders combined to win six championships in a nine-season span. The city has just two titles since the Raiders won the Super Bowl in January 1981 and is danger of losing its teams. “He leads by example”.
“We’d put him out there in a game and the crowd would go insane, and it made it hard for us to call the plays, the checks and the cadence”, Gannon said.
