Group seeks cop’s suspension in fatal shooting

Bullock of Change Agent Consortium told the Detroit Free Press, referring to Black Lives Matter protests that shut down stores at the Mall of America and light-rail trains and traffic to the airport in Minneapolis Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to the probation violation warrant, the man was suspected of numerous crimes in the area, Craig added.

Police have not confirmed that Matthews was the man involved in Wednesday’s confrontation.

In Chicago, persistent protests — including one Thursday — were sparked by the release of police dashcam video showing a white officer shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, who was holding a knife but appeared to be walking away from officers, 16 times in October 2014. The officer got out of his vehicle and began to chase the man. They crossed the street and entered the City of Detroit.

A large group of family members surrounded Williams in a news conference Thursday, vowing to fight for prosecution of the unnamed officer.

Matthew was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

Detroit Chief James Craig has said the officer suffered minor injuries and that his uniform was ripped.

“The officer gave pursuit on foot and he ran for about half a block,”Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a statement”.

Haddad says the shooting is “extremely tragic”, and he offered condolences to the family of the victim.

The Detroit Police Department also responded to the scene of the incident and said they would be conducting an investigation of their own.
