76ers acquire Smith from Pelicans for 2 2nd-round picks
The Pelicans bolstered their prospects today by trading Point Guard Ish Smith to the Philadelphia 76ers for draft picks.
After the first six games of the season, Smith totaled 45 assists.
Smith appeared in 25 games (14 starts) as a Sixer in 2014-15, averaging 12 points and 6.1 assists for Philadelphia.
He ranks fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.42-to-1) and sixth in assists per 48 minutes (12.0) in the National Basketball Association.
Wroten is coming off a torn ACL and averaging 8.4 points per game on 33 percent shooting. He has started multiple games for the Pelicans this season and played a large role early on, but his playing time has been reduced since Norris Cole and Tyreke Evans returned from injury.
Wroten, who is guaranteed $2.18 million this season, has accumulated more turnovers (29) than made field goals (22) in 2015-16.
It’s the first trade made by the Sixers since the arrival of new team executive Jerry Colangelo and assistant coach Mike D’Antoni.
Tony Wroten was released by the 76ers on Thursday, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reported the Sixers are sending 2016 and ’17 second-rounders to the Pelicans.
