McGregor knocks out Aldo in seconds to take UFC title
Conor McGregor knocked out Jose Aldo to capture the UFC featherweight championship at UFC 194 on Sunday night.
This however was the exact outcome of the fight where McGregor landing a well timed and accurate left hook 13 seconds into the fight.
But if he wants a shot at the lightweight belt, he’ll have to fight UFC president Dana White for the right to keep the featherweight title at the same time.
After 10 years as the unbeaten pound for pound king of the UFC, Aldo took the defeat badly and was visibly upset.
The loquacious brawler had goaded Aldo throughout the build-up to the much-anticipated fight, which had been delayed in the summer after an injury had kept Aldo from competing.
McGregor also paid tribute to his opponent Jose Aldo.
“At 27 years of age I stand here as the unified world champion with back-to-back gate records at the MGM”. But I think it’s too soon to talk.
“Nobody can take that left-hand shot”, McGregor declared.
The 29-year-old Aldo said losing a big fight in a way he did was hard to forget, but he vows to come back better than ever. “If not, then we do Frankie Edgar, and José Aldo would fight somebody else”.
Aldo was on hand to witness McGregor’s destruction of Siver. Anchored by a pair of title fights, the event saw the crowning of two new champions as both featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo and middleweight top dog Chris Weidman fell to their challengers.
On to the chin of Aldo rendering motionless on the floor and the Vegas crowd stunned, I was heartbroken to see my one of my idols destroyed.
McGregor revealed it was time to be with his family before working out what his next career move would be.
McGregor stellar win made him the UFC’s biggest star especially after Ronda Rousey ended her remarkable reign as the UFC women’s bantamweight champion.
