JJ Abrams ‘regrets’ not directing Star Wars: Episode VIII
All those repeat viewings also add to the value of the Star Wars franchise: “The more you watch a movie, the more it sticks with you”.
You can check out the 30 minute Q&A with Abrams and “The Force Awakens” screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan below.
Only a Star Wars geek would notice.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to crush records, picking up a smashing US$37.3 million (S$49.2 million) on Tuesday (Dec 22) from the domestic box office. “So we ended up leaving those things out”, he continued.
In another promo Kylo Ren turns on his lightsaber, ‘which was also not in the movie, ‘ J.J. said. The film hit Dollars 250 million in worldwide ticket sales in only three days after beginning its rollout overseas, thus becoming the fastest movie to cross USD 200 million globally.
Later in the review, they again blast director J.J. Abrams, who they say modeled his direction on “the sloppiest current action films derived from the world of video games”.
Analysts expect that this movie is going to cross the $2 billion milestone in the near future, which would just go to show that The Force really is strong with this one. It definitely wasn’t meant to be diversionary.
They replied with: “Our team is focusing on the original trilogy for this release of Star Wars Battlefront”. Unlike his predecessor, Abrams isn’t interested in rereleases.
Of course, this does pave the way for a longer, director’s cut of the movie, a practice that has become a popular moneymaker in Hollywood.
Lucasfilm “Episode VIII” will feature the return of Abrams’ new characters, including Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).
The new relationship between Princess Leia and Han Solo is surprisingly well-handled; I only wish other aspects of the script had been as carefully dealt with.
