Christmas Eve weather: Met Office forecast for Somerset
It’s not going to be a white Christmas.
Christmas eve has arrived with more rain and warm weather in tow. But the warmth could be paired with showers every day through the weekend. It’s expected to be partly sunny Friday, followed by a likelihood of rain Saturday and Sunday.
Christmas Day will be cold and windy, with a high of just 26 degrees in Flagstaff and an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow in the forecast.
Our wet and warmer pattern will push on through Christmas Eve, but rain should be less widespread.
Hesperia is expected to reach 42 degrees Friday, as will Loma Linda.
The mercury hit 64 degrees at 12:01 a.m., topping the all-time December 24 high temperature of 63 degrees set in 1996, according to AccuWeather.
Wednesday – Strong storms and even tornadoes are possible from parts of the Southeast, including Little Rock, Arkansas, and Memphis and Nashville in Tennessee. The record high is 75, set in 1955.
By Sunday will see a break from the rain before another system grazes us later Monday sending a cold rain across the area that evening before changing to some snow. Only 11 percent of the time over the past 127 years has measurable snow fallen on Christmas Day, said Zach Schwalbe, a drought specialist with the Colorado Climate Center at CSU.
“For the last two months of the winter season, we’re anticipating warmer and dryer conditions than normal”, Smith said.
Once that disturbance moves through, expect lots of sunshine for most of next week.
The storm threat should end Monday night but there is a possibility we may see another flare-up of rain by Wednesday.
Cooler conditions are expected Christmas Eve night, with strong southwesterly winds, especially east of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.
