Drew Brees hopes to finish season despite torn plantar fascia

The New Orleans Saints are still waiting for a second opinion on the torn plantar fascia Drew Brees suffered in his right foot on Monday.

Stafford produced his first midway through the first quarter with a short pass to Golden Tate, who received well to score the first of two touchdowns.

“I dont know what we got going here”, he told reporters, per Nick Underhill of The Advocate. I don’t know. Whatever they saw or thought they saw, we thought we saw it on replay and it looked pretty obvious.

But Abdullah fumbled on Detroit’s next play from scrimmage, and the Saints capitalized with Brees’ 11-yard scoring strike to Marques Colston.

The Saints finish up their season with a home game this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars and a road game in Atlanta against the nose-diving Falcons.

Brees hurt his right foot in the first half, but didn’t come out of the game.

With both New Orleans and Detroit eliminated from playoff contention, they will play their final two weeks for nothing more than pride and drafting order before regrouping in the offseason.

With New Orleans already trailing 21-3 with one minute, 12 seconds left in the second quarter, Brees fired a pass across the middle to Brandin Cooks for a 29-yard touchdown-or so it seemed. Look for another one of those games where the opponent jumps out to a big halftime lead on San Francisco and then cruises to victory in the second half.

Payton said Brees and the team will learn whether Brees’ playing status will depend on whether he can endure the pain, or whether there is further risk of injury.

Payton said Wednesday that he won’t be able to answer questions about Brees’ ability to play this Sunday until the team hears back from Dr. Anderson.

They don’t come much more dependable than Glover Quin has been since he signed with the Detroit Lions as a free agent prior to the 2013 season. He just became the fourth quarterback in National Football League history to throw for 60,000 career yards on Monday night.

“They were concentrated on Calvin that play, and… that opened up that alley even more, ” Caldwell said. Bell, a former Saints practice squad player, had 71 yards on eight carries with long gains of 36 and 27 yards.

Defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker joined the Lions for Monday’s game against the Saints, one of the few times he’s been with his teammates since suffering a season-ending injury in Week 4. While he didn’t get the nod, Robinson was worthy of a Pro Bowl berth with 69 receptions for 1,141 yards with a 16.5 average and 13 TDs.
