Connecticut’s Christmas Eve temperatures break record

Highs will warm to the mid 70s, near daily records. Minor flooding is expected today as the river is expected to crest at 15.3′ this evening. Milder air starts to return for the rest of us and blustery, wet weather returns.

Cooler conditions are expected Christmas Eve night, with strong southwesterly winds, especially east of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.

It’s another chapter in what has been an incredibly warm December over much of the Eastern United States in what has been coined among some meteorologists as the “blowtorch”. Now, the track of the low will determine if we get any *wintry* precip, but the way it’s looking – it’s been trending south for a few model runs.

As for Christmas, forecasters say a deepening low pressure system over James Bay will track towards the North Pole Christmas Eve, leaving behind balmy weather.

A slightly lower high of 47 is anticipated on Friday. Temperatures in Danbury reached 68 degrees.

Christmas, look for more unusually warm weather, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of near 61. Temperatures will drop into the mid-40s. Buffalo just saw its first flakes over the weekend, and that will likely be gone by Christmas.

By Christmas Day, the severe threat will diminish but areas out west will continue to deal with snow showers.

Christmas Day will bring some morning showers then afternoon clearing. The chance of rain will decrease to 60 percent Sunday night when the low will be 44.
