Showers will remain in the forecast for Christmas Eve night, but rain isn’t expected to be as heavy as Wednesday night. If you want to see some sleet and wet snow, head for the higher ground after midnight into Christmas day and you might just be lucky.

Obviously, with temps in the mid to upper 60s, snow and icy conditions will not be an issue but the National Weather Service has issued a “Special Weather Statement” for the area for Christmas Eve.

As for Christmas, forecasters say a deepening low pressure system over James Bay will track towards the North Pole Christmas Eve, leaving behind balmy weather. If that pans out, it would be the warmest Christmas Day on record in western North Carolina. Temperatures will once again be well above normal in the lower 50s.

On Christmas Day itself we can expect sunny skies and temps in the low 60s.

Flood warnings continues for Greenwood, Newberry and Union counties where more than three inches of rain fell Monday night.

But the Antelope Valley is in for cold snap and possibly a white Christmas, the NWS said.
