‘Leicester is Gump’ – Ranieri
“Challenging for the Premier League title is obviously a big ask, but I don’t see any reason why we can’t get in the top four or six, or even the top eight to start with and then try and build from there”.
“It’s possible because there is a fantastic dressing room, they train very well, and that is my philosophy”.
“They play almost ideal counter attacking football, very quick”.
Ranieri also feels playing to his side’s strengths has worked well this season, with possession often sacrificed in order to get free-scoring Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez on the ball quickly.
Italian coach Claudio Ranieri has overseen a remarkable transformation since taking over at Leicester City.
“Leicester don’t need many chances to score”.
If Leicester go on to win this title it would be the greatest achievement in Premier League history, better than United’s treble season, better than Arsenal’s invicibles this team would go down in history as the greatest underdogs of all time.
“Maybe I want to go one way and they want to go another way, and we have to go together”. We wanted to win this game and I think it sends out a statement of what we are all about this year. “I think they’re enjoying it and they must continue in this way”, Ranieri told British media.
“But now we are only concentrating on Liverpool, then when we’ve finished that match we will concentrate on the next”. I hope to replace them but we are not looking to do much.
He said: “I’m aware of this (Inler’s) situation because I’ve looked at all the players who could be interested in this situation because of the Euros”. They will want to play and show that they have the quality to play.
When that sequence is added to their results this term, Leicester’s record over the last 26 games reads W18 D6 L2, which supports Ranieri’s suggestion that his leaders should not run out of steam.
One of those is Switzerland captain Gokhan Inler, a £3.5 million ($7.6 million) signing this summer, who is preparing for Euro 2016 but has started only two league games.
