FedEx isn’t coming to town with all gifts on Christmas Eve
Based on that number, the Postal Service’s share of holiday deliveries this year is estimated to jump to 40% from 35% a year ago. And last Friday, retailer Jet.com told customers that it couldn’t “confidently guarantee” orders would arrive in time for Christmas unless shoppers opted for more expensive two-day delivery.

As it comes closer to the start of the holidays, the customers will start using shipping options that are faster such as two-day and overnight delivery.

But the news was not all grim: Spurred by the increasingly competitive marketplace, retailers increased their accuracy in getting orders out, as improved execution enabled 80 percent of retailers to complete orders within two weeks of Cyber Monday, up from 66 percent previous year, with 9 percent fewer cancelled orders. FedEx said it’s forecasting a record-breaking 317 million shipments between Black Friday and Christmas Eve – a 12.4 percent hike in seasonal volume from 2014.
“I’m anxious we’re going to have a surge, and if we do, can we get the packages there in time for Christmas”, Wingo said. Throw in bad weather, and deliveries backed up.
“I think people did a lot of ordering by mail”, he said.
Earlier this week, reports had surfaced suggesting that FedEx and UPS were not being able to perform well enough during this year’s holiday season. “I am tethered to a phone and an iPad and a MacBook”.
