Is Peter Capaldi ready to leave ‘Doctor Who’?
“I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things”, Capaldi said in an interview with the Telegraph.
Still, if Capaldi does leave after this season, it does not feel as though three seasons will have passed.
The 57-year-old is the 12th actor to play the famous Time Lord in the long-running BBC sci-fi series, and he’s not taking a single moment for granted.
Series Nine of Doctor Who was notable not only for the increased quality in the program as a whole, but in the development of the Doctor.
Hmm, that’s interesting. Capaldi doesn’t say for sure that he’ll be hanging up his coat after next season, but it seems the end of the 12th Doctor is definitely something at the forefront of his mind.
Capaldi’s first full festival special featuring Santa Claus was the lowest to date, drawing just 6.3 million viewers on average and 8.3 million when those who had recorded or used catch up services finally saw it, according to the Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board (Barb). “He was always saying, ‘You can’t not bring her back because she’s got to be together with Capaldi – it will be a sex storm!'” he told Yahoo, adding that “It’s the most Christmassy Doctor Who ever!”
As for when season 10 will officially premiere on the BBC … your guess ultimately is as good as anyone else’s. Behind the scenes, different showrunners and writers realize their unique visions as the times change, and at some point someone will succeed Moffat to lead Doctor Who in a new direction.
As for the next Companion, all that has been said so far is that it is probably going to be a woman, and there are some ideas floating around.
The festive episode sees Alex Kingston reprise her role as Professor River Song, the Doctor’s wife, whom she first played in 2008. “She doesn’t do any flirting with him because she doesn’t think he’s the Doctor, and that really irritates him”.
Though the Time Lord will identify River, she fails to recognize him.
Olivia’s “Doctor Who” role was a fairly ordinary one… oh, unless you count those terrifying gnashers, that is. Let us know your take in the comments section below!
