Track Santa with NORAD on Christmas Eve
In 1955, Sears ran an ad with a Santa hotline number kids could call to track the fat man’s progress.
In that year the phone number posted was for the Continental Aerospace Defense Command, which has since become the North American Aerospace Defense Command. “Ground based radar tracking sites relay global positioning updates to our elite fighter pilots, who often escort Santa’s sleigh through rough weather”.
Volunteers will be at the NORAD call center 24 hours on Christmas Eve, so that everyone around the world gets a chance to call in.
Meanwhile, Captain Sean McCarthy of the Irish Air Corp has told us that he’s keeping the radars in tip-top shape to make sure that there’s nothing going to slow down Santa’s entry into Irish airspace.
And thanks to Google, Microsoft, and NORAD, you can track Santa’s whereabouts from your phone, computer, or tablet.
Finally, media from all over the world rely on NORAD as a trusted source to provide updates on Santa’s journey.
Fortunately, Santa Claus will be at it again this holiday season to deliver gifts throughout the world, and he isn’t asking for much in return.
The website is available in eight languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Chinese.
People dressed as Santa Claus gather in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park during the SantaCon 2015 in New York City December 12, 2015, the 21st anniversary of the event that sees hundreds of people dress as Father Christmas. Google also has a Santa tracker with some games and other treats, which you can find here.
Created by a 1958 agreement between Canada and the United States, the North American Aerospace Defense Command [NORAD] is responsible for the aerospace and maritime defense of both countries.
“Next thing you know, dad had called the radio station and had said, ‘This is the commander at the Combat Alert Center, and we have an unidentified flying object”. So, you’d better watch out. If you have an Android device, you can track Santa’s path on the official Google app, which is also compatible with Chromecast for users who want to view the tracker from their TVs.
