Palestinian killed after stabbing 2 in West Bank
But while many in Israel prepare for the holiday that commemorates this event, few things are silent, calm and bright in the Holy Land.
The attacker was killed, said Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld on Thursday.
Israel charged two Palestinian cousins from towns near northern city Nazareth for ties to ISIS and planning an attack, the Shin Bet domestic security agency said Thursday.
On Wednesday, two Palestinian attackers were shot dead after they stabbed and killed an Israeli man. Another Israeli man died after he was apparently shot by Israeli police trying to subdue the attackers.
The Palestinians have pointed to a deadly arson attack, believed to have been carried out by Jewish extremists in the West Bank last summer, as a key source of frustration. Later in the day another of the three, Ofer Ben ari, 46, passed away having suffered gunshot wounds from Israeli police who were attempting to neutralize the terrorists.
Both assailants were shot by security forces and died of their wounds.
Later on Thursday, Israeli troops clashed with Palestinian protesters at the Qalandiya checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank city of Ramallah.
On Wednesday, Israeli forces detained 18 Palestinians in the West Bank, including one minor from Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem. The assailant, 23-year-old Mouhamed Zaharn from the village of Adick was shot dead. No Israelis were wounded. The driver was shot and killed at the scene, an IDF statement said. Israeli police said that the man sustained a serious injury in the upper part of his body, while the woman sustained a moderate injury.
About two hours later, one person was injured when a vehicle tried to run over soldiers and border police officers at the entrance to the Rama outpost north of Jerusalem. Three Israelis were were seriously injured during the attack, according to emergency medical workers.
Israeli troops responded with live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets, stun grenades and tear gas. Two other Palestinians were killed in other incidents, including an attack by a motorist on Israeli troops in which one soldier was lightly wounded.
