After Mega Fight With Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor Targets Floyd Mayweather Jr’s
José Aldo lost his UFC featherweight championship in just 13 seconds Saturday night in the main event of UFC 194, as Conor McGregor connected with one devastating punch that dropped Aldo to the canvas.
Naturally, Pederneiras also believes the former champion deserves a rematch to redeem himself.
Will Aldo ever get the chance to raise the belt aloft again? “Not only me but my career speaks for itself”, Aldo said.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s first question to the Brazilian after his stunning 13-second KO to Conor McGregor was: “Jose, how much, if any, of the fight can you remember?”
“I said his right hand would get him into trouble”.
“I think I am the pound-for-pound No. 1”, McGregor said. But, man, it’s hard to say know if it’s [his] success or [my] mistake. McGregor, like Rousey for a few minutes, is the face of the division, and might the biggest name in the UFC right now, or at least we’ll find out when the PPV numbers come in.
The pair were scheduled to fight on July 11 at UFC 189; although this didn’t come to fruition due to Aldo withdrawing from the fight with injury. Yet when asked to foresee his own future after he ended Aldo’s 18-fight winning streak, McGregor wasn’t quite ready. It takes a while to digest, but part. “It’s a sport and we have to accept”. “That was really not a fight so we need to get back in here”. Still, the 27-year-old Irishman quickly pointed out that he has never had any issues on the scales prior to his fights. And the UFC is having enough trouble putting title fights on every PPV card without multiple belts on a single person.
McGregor is expected to move up to lightweight and fight the victor of Rafael Dos Anjos – Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 17 or will fight Frank Edgar at featherweight.
Although it was a long shot even before McGregor came out victorious, it was understandable that Edgar would have to wait a bit for his turn. Most certainly I’m looking to replicate what I did in my previous promotion: a two-weight world champion held consecutively.
