Weather service confirms tornado touch-down in western Ohio
Heavy rain and gusty wind pounded several areas of metro Detroit, one city is waiting on confirmation that a tornado touched down. To be considered severe, winds must be 58 miles per hour, or hail must be quarter sized. There was even a confirmed tornado in Canton, Michigan.
The National Weather Service is expected to be in the area tomorrow to continue the investigation.
The Weather Service also recorded a “weak, short-lived” EF-0 tornado about three miles south southwest of Moncks Corner in Berkeley County. “We was just jetting ready to get out of here”.
Meteorologist Rachel Kulik says the tornado hit an industrial complex, causing damage to some of its buildings.
No fatalities were reported, according to the weather service.
Elsewhere Wednesday, in Deerfield in Lenawee County, a barn was destroyed with debris scattered up to 50 yards away, the weather service said.
Nationally, at least seven people were killed by the storm system that forecasters said was “particularly risky”.
At the neary Mobile gas station on Haggerty, damage is estimated at more than $100,000.
