The overnight low will reach only one degree cooler than the usual high, dropping to 39 Thursday night under mostly sunny skies.
In fact, southeast MI could set a record high on Wednesday with a forecasted high of 60 degrees, which could beat the previous record of 56 set in 1893.
Friday Night: A chance of showers.
While snow in the East is hard to come by, it’s a whole different story in the West. Skiers are loving it. Snow in much of the Northwest is above normal already. Clouds will persist throughout the day, but temperatures will be warm on Christmas Day with highs in the 70s, and high temperatures over the on Saturday in the mid-60s and low 70s on Sunday.
In another example of just how remarkably warm it is right now in Gotham, the mercury hit 75 degrees this past Fourth of July – so just a single degree more than Thursday’s high.
Thursday Night: Mostly Cloudy. The rain doesn’t stop there…Saturday we’ll have a few showers and a high of 71. Rainfall will be heaviest south of I-70 but all of Mid-Missouri will see over an inch with up to 5 inches near I-44 by 6 PM Sunday where flooding is possible. 30% chance for some rain. The most consistent rains will stay mainly north of our region but at any point these quick moving showers or an isolated storm will be possible. Tuesday it’s back to shower chances, with afternoon temperatures back near 50 degrees.
The weekend will feel more like spring with highs near 80 degrees.
In 2002, the area had a very “White Christmas”, with record-making snowfall of more than a foot on Christmas Day, according to records.
