Chelsea players must break negative cycle: Hiddink
Hiddink has been installed as a temporary replacement for Jose Mourinho-at least until the end of the season-and his immediate job will be to steer the club back toward the kind of form that won the 2015 Premier League crown. Drogba’s arrival would no doubt prompt a positive change in atmosphere at the club, where a top four finish is not beyond the realms of possibility.
But although his role is only due to be short-term, Hiddink is looking even further ahead and is considering Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ola Aina, Charly Musonda, Tammy Abraham and Jay DaSilva for first-team action starting as early as his first game.
Ivanovic, who played under Hiddink during his initial period at the club in 2009, feels the team are in safe hands as it enters the busy Christmas period, which begins with a Boxing Day fixture at home against in-form Watford.
Exiting the Champions League in the group stages and going on a six-game winless run is simply not good enough for a club of the Red Devils’ stature and spending power.
In his London Evening Standard column, Redknapp wrote: “John Terry should be given the chance to manage Chelsea next on a permanent basis”.
The Canadian team said it was working to get Drogba back for the next season but the situation was out of its control.
“The official process I don’t know but I spoke openly from the bottom of my heart that huge impact players can be key for the club”.
“We can not ignore what has happened in the recent past, but I asked them and told them to look in the mirror and be hypercritical and give the best for the team”.
Meanwhile Hornets boss Quique Sanchez Flores expects to face a reinvigorated Chelsea side when he takes his men to Stamford Bridge.
The Spaniard believes that it is hard to predict how the Blues will line up following the departure of Jose Mourinho, with Hiddink taking charge of his first game since replacing the Portuguese at Stamford Bridge.
However, with Watford flying high thanks to the striking duo of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney, it is the Blues who will be under post-Christmas pressure.
“Hopefully we can go all the way positively”.
‘We understand his attachment, but our objective is to have him back for another season’.
Despite winning the Premier League title and the Capital One Cup, 2015 was not a year that Chelsea will only remember for the successes.
