Army killed and secretly buried 300 Shiites – Human Rights Watch
FOR the second time in as many years, the Nigerian Army descended heavily on the Sheikh Ibrahim Yaqub el Zakzaky led Zaria-based Islamic sect, which styles itself as “the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN)” but who are more popularly referred to as the Shiites, with many killed and injured, and the whereabouts of the sect’s leader unclear. “They entered schools along these routes, using them as rest and recreation points without notice or permission or any concern about the disruption of academic activities”, El-Rufai said.
Human rights activists say Nigerian troops killed many hundreds of Shiites in raids in the northern town of Zaria over three days December 12-14.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the five-man panel has Tony Ojukwu as its chairman, and Kabiru Elayo as secretary. Hundreds of Shiites were reportedly killed in an army raid in Nigeri…
“The allegations are not true”, said Nigerian army spokesman Sani Usman to AFP.
“At best it was a brutal overreaction and at worst it was a planned attack on the minority Shiite group”.
“Meanwhile, the Kaduna state government has taken over the destruction of all the properties of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria located across Zaria”.
The army said its confrontation with the Shia sect members who had erected a makeshift roadblock near a mosque resulted from an assassination attempt on the army chief of staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, whose convoy was passing by.
Boko Haram and ISIS are terrorists, They are killing Muslims and innocent people because of your dirty money, Hey Nigeria Government you killed thousands of Muslims and specially Zakzaky’s family too, You are all terrorists, You are all murders, GOD damn you!
Nigeria’s military has routinely been accused of human rights abuses in its effort to bring Boko Haram under control, with Amnesty International claiming hundreds of people have been wrongfully killed in the fight against the jihadists.
The group’s leader, Iran-influenced Ibraheem Zakzaky, was wounded and is among scores detained.
