President Obama chips in for birdie on 18th hole in Hawaii
President Barack Obama has returned to his Kailua vacation home after hiking with family and friends, and White House officials say he will be staying in for the rest of the day.
He’s also been attacked in the past, including by GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, for spending too much time on playing golf – an attack that’s plagued past presidents too, including Obama’s predecessor George W. Bush.
Golfer Travis Lin said he was excited to see President Obama for the first time and exchanged greetings with him. The motorcade departed Kailua at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday and arrived in Waikiki at 7:20 p.m. This is the fourth year in a row they’ve made the Asian-fusion restaurant – run by celebrity Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto – their first pick for dinner out.
The president kicked off his Tuesday at the gym, then headed out to Hawaii Kai for the hike.
The drive to the Nature Center took Obama by his childhood school, Punahou School, a private college prep institution where the president spent much of the 1970s. It was overcast this morning with rain showers on the windward portion of Oahu where the president is vacationing with his family.
The president arrived early Saturday at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for the start of his annual two-week holiday getaway from Washington.
