Gandhis granted bail in corruption case
The Congress leaders, including the Gandhis, looked and behaved like martyrs as they walked into court, smiling and waving.
Rather than focusing their attention on development, BJP was dragging the INC president and the vice-president to Court with a malicious intention to give a set-back to the Congress party.
Swamy had alleged that the accused had indulged in financial misappropriation in transfer of shares of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), publishers of the now defunct National Herald newspaper to a new company Young Indian Limited.
Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi leave the Patiala House Courts after a hearing in National Herald Case in New Delhi.
When Congress President Sonia Gandhi along with party vice president Rahul Gandhi entered the room of the magistrate at the Patiala House courts complex here, senior leaders including former prime minister Manmohan Singh stood up as a mark of respect. “By way of contrast, Congress has played the role of a responsible opposition and helped BJP pass the Insurance Regulatory Authority legislation”.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday accused the Narendra Modi government of misusing central agencies to target opponents and said her party is not afraid and will continue its fight.
While the party had summoned all 45 Lok Sabha and 67 Rajya Sabha MPs, former MPs, state leaders, party veterans, and former chief ministers Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Ashok Gehlot were also present.
Congress strategists have also prepared talking points for their spokespersons and workers so that they can explain that the case filed by BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy is essentially weak, and will not withstand the scrutiny of law.
“BJP has failed to fulfill their promise of good governance and now they have nothing left to do except personal attacks on Congress leadership which is a diversionary tactic to hide its failures on developmental front”, they said. “Leaders like GN Azad and Mallikarjun Kharge aside from Rahul Gandhi have expressing their trust in the judiciary”.
Hundreds of members of the Congress party were massed outside the court premises in a show of support for the torchbearers of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty that ruled India for more than four decades after independence in 1947.
It may be mentioned that the court later granted bail to the Gandhis on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety from each.
Petitioner Subramanian Swamy was the first to reach the court with his team of lawyers. The court appearance lasted barely five minutes.
“This is a legal matter and the law is doing its work, it has got no relevance to politics. They were not allowed to sit except Vora”, he said. “I have no doubt that the truth will come out”, the Congress chief told reporters.
