Natural disaster: 6.5 magnitude tremors felt across Delhi-NCR, epicenter at Hindukush
People were jolted out of sleep after tremors were felt in Srinagar.
Met Department officials said that the tremors may have been felt across North India but reports are still awaited. Sources claim that emergency has been declared across several parts of Pakistan as people have been asked to stay alert.
Cracks in buildings were also reported in Azad Kashmir after 6.9 quake.
The capital city Peshawar of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was the worst-hit area from where the all 37 casualties were reported, Xinhua quoted Urdu news channel Geo as saying.
But the epicentre is a remote location and it may take a while for the reports to come in.
As per the US Geological Survey, the quake, which hit at a depth of 203.5 kilometres, had its epicentre some 280 kilometres northeast of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.
Pakistan Defence had tweeted stating the people to get out of their houses as after shocks were predicted to be destructive.
Another global seismic network, GEOFON, reported on its website that the tremor was slightly stronger as a magnitude 6.3.
