Seahawks RB Rawls out for season with ankle injury
The injury occurred during the Seahawks’ opening drive Sunday.
Seattle Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken ankle and ligament damage during Seattle’s 35-6 win over the Baltimore Ravens Sunday.
In the first quarter of a scoreless game, Rawls rushed to the right on 2nd-and-1 from the Baltimore 8-yard line and lost three yards.
Russell Wilson threw five touchdown passes for the Seahawks, three to Doug Baldwin and two more to Tyler Lockett.
The loss of Rawls and Lynch will be a major challenge for Seattle, which has been playing some of its best football of the season after a slow start. “We have a philosophy and an approach that doesn’t need to be changed right now”, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said on Monday.
“He went through a big surgery, and has a lot to get through”, he said. Rawls had been sublime in relief of Lynch, who has missed six games this season due to hamstring and abdominal injuries.
“I just never really got full control of the ball, and I couldn’t get the handle and I fumbled”, Allen said.
The 29-year-old has played in seven games this season and is averaging 3.8 yards-per-carry, which would tie a single-season, career-low. He definitely added a different energy to the Seahawks making quarterback Russell Wilson throw 16 touchdowns since Week 11 for their four recent victories.
Brown was expected to figure into the mix against the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, but his role could be larger than expected with DuJuan Harris released.
But the rookie, who gained 47 yards on his first five carries against the Ravens on Sunday, was injured on his sixth when he was pushed back by Baltimore’s defence and twisted awkwardly as he went to the turf. We just have to find a way to get better. Two weeks ago, they lost Jimmy Graham for the year with a severe knee injury.
Rawls finish his rookie season with 830 rushing yards on 147 attempts, after rushing for 44 yards on six carries against Baltimore.
Harris, who was signed off the practice squad earlier this month, appeared in two games, carrying 20 times for 49 yards, including 18 carries for 42 yards agasint the Ravens.
Harbaugh says, “We’re going through a painful, tough season….”
“It’s a good opportunity for us to bring a guy back that we’ve been training”, Carroll said of Brown. However, when you consider that the run defense did everything in it’s power to stop a Seattle power run game that has eaten it’s share of teams up, it is worthy of a mention.
Unfortunately, those players weren’t in good enough shape to help. They had a chance to take a 14-3 lead but Luke Wilson, all alone in the end zone, dropped what should have been a routine touchdown pass.
Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor also sat out the last three quarters Sunday because of what Carroll said was “a bruised backside”.
Carroll would not guess as to when Lynch might play.
