Sanaullah Zehri elected new Balochistan CM unopposed
Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday was elected unopposed as Chief Minister Balochistan since no other candidate submitted nomination papers for the slot.
Under the Murree Accord, the coalition arrangement between the PML-N, NP, and the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) after the May 2013 polls, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch was elected as the chief minister for a period of two-and-a-half years.
Earlier today, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri Baloch was elected as Chief Minister Balochistan unopposed. After consultations with his allies, Nawaz Sharif chose to elevate President PML-N Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri as the chief minister of Balochistan for the remaining tenure of the provincial government.
Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani on Thursday has been elected as new speaker of Balochistan without any contest, TheNewsTribe.com reported. Under the pact, agreed to in 2013, PML-N gave up its claim to head the ruling coalition in the province and nominated Dr Abdul Malik, the president of National Party, for the post of chief minister.
“We will make Balochistan a peaceful place so that upcoming generations remember us with good words”, he said.
The Returning Officer rejected his nomination papers, giving his decision that the time was expired as Mufti Gulab Khan could not submit his papers within stipulated time. He said attacks against Hazara community would not be tolerated anymore.
The newly-elected chief minister said he meant to introduce a wide range of measures to improve governance, security and the quality of life in Balochistan.
She is first woman in the history of Balochistan who was elected as Speaker Balochistan Assembly.
Presiding Officer Syed Liaquat Ali Agha administered oath to her on the assembly premises. In addition to the Speaker, Deputy Speaker has also tendered his resignation.
Parliamentary leaders, the leader of opposition and minority and women MPAs in the Balochistan Assembly congratulated Rahila on her election. “I will try to take all the political forces into confidence on major issues”, Zehri said after his election.
