DDCA to take a call on Azad’s membership on Dec 26
After Jaitley filed a defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders, Azad dared the Finance Minister to sue him as well since it was he who blew the whistle on the corruption prevailing in the DDCA.
In the meeting the BJP veterans concluded that Kirti Azad’s suspension sent a wrong message about the party trying to suppress the voice of a whistleblower.
Azad further requested Prime Minister Modi to look into the issue and ensure him justice.
“Kirti Azad, Darbhanga MP, is suspended from party with immediate effect for his anti-party activities”, a BJP statement said.
“It is unfortunate that someone who is fighting against corruption, the one who speaks the truth, the one who is being harassed for these many years, has suddenly become “anti-party” and thrown out”, added Azad.
Jaitley headed the DDCA for 13 long years until 2013.
Supporters of suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad today staged a protest outside 11, Ashoka Road, party’s headquarters, demanding withdrawal of his suspension from the party.
As reported, BJP national President Amit Shah had summoned Azad to ask him to tone down his rhetoric against Jaitley.
“His crime? Raised issue of corruption in DDCA with facts”. Claiming there was no contradiction between “Swamy as Modi proxy against the Gandhis” and “Swamy as Azad’s counsel against Jaitley”, AICC spokesman P L Punia said, “It is known that Swamy wants to be the finance minister and his attack on Jaitley stems from his ambition”.
Azad, suspended for “anti-party activities”, sought help from the party’s “Marg Darshak Mandal” which comprises of Advani, Joshi, the now ailing former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh. “I have been a loyal soldier of BJP since 1993 when I was elected as MLA from New Delhi constituency”. Upset at the development, the BJP veterans have authorized former Advani to write to the Prime Minister and express their anguish. Sources said the seniors decided they must “intervene meaningfully” to “stem the damage arising from Kirti’s suspension” yesterday but would stick to BJP forums to air their views.
Azad maintained that his fight was only against alleged corruption in the DDCA and not against any individual and asked for “specific reasons” for the disciplinary action against him by the party.
