Russell Wilson brilliant as playoff-bound Seahawks handle Johnny Manziel, Browns
No NFL quarterback, past or present, has had a five-game span more impressive than former Wisconsin star and current Seattle Seahawks stud Russell Wilson. But by winning Seattle improved to 9-5, and the best the Rams can finish is 8-8.
Wilson was 21 of 30 for 249 yards.
Lynch, 29, has 417 yards and three touchdowns in seven games this season.
Johnny Manziel started with a 15-play touchdown drive, but he and the rest of the Browns faded from there.
Seattle Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett (16) is congratulated by Justin Britt after Lockett’s touchdown reception against the Cleveland Browns in the second half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, in Seattle.
With Lynch out at least another game, Carroll hinted that the Seahawks will again split carries this upcoming week and give a bigger workload to the hot-hand. He finished 19 of 31 for 161 yards but never duplicated the opening drive. Still, though, Wilson had adequate time to throw three touchdown passes. Duke Johnson Jr. rushed for 39 of his 46 yards on one carry. The Bears are 5-9. He is the first quarterback in National Football League history with three or more touchdown passes and no interceptions in five consecutive games.
The Chargers Cannon went off when Woodhead caught a 20-yard touchdown pass. Miami (5-9) lost for the fourth time in five games. “NFL?” The sign was off by one year; the Chargers have been there 55 years. The Seahawks threw a lot of short, underneath passes with much success. It wasn’t enough as the Raiders were eliminated from playoff contention for the 13th straight season.
The Patriots joined the Carolina Panthers in clinching first-round byes. Five games, whatever it is, but no. When it’s all said and done, what have you done over the course of your career?
One of the toughest to stomach came near the end of the third quarter with the game still well in balance. His 13 single-season touchdowns receptions surpass franchise records set by Steve Largent and Joey Galloway (12) and tie him with Daryl Turner, who caught 13 touchdown passes in 1985.
We are approaching two years under General Manager Ray Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine.
Brandon Weeden also put them in the AFC South lead. Coach Bill O’Brien said he didn’t expect Yates to play next week. Rivers even put his signature on two signs critical of team chairman Dean Spanos, reading: “Spanos loves money and I love San Diego” and “Don’t be the Grinch who stole the Bolts from San Diego”. Besides the first drive the defense made life hard for the Browns offense. Houston claimed him off waivers November 18 as an insurance policy – one that paid handsome dividends in an ugly win. “The Seahawks now find themselves in a far different position than even a couple weeks earlier”.
“You could just see”.
“I think we had plenty of opportunities to make the game closer than it was”, Manziel said. “You’re not going to be very successful”.
O’Brien said he didn’t expect Yates to play next week and didn’t provide a specific update on the injury, though the CBS broadcast said initial reports indicated it was an ACL injury. His status for next Sunday remains unclear, but the injury doesn’t sound serious.
This battle of backup quarterbacks certainly didn’t earn many style points.
If it seems like Doug Baldwin just signed a contract extension, it’s because he did.
Yates was 6 of 10 with 68 yards and one interception. Seattle was the team with Super Bowl aspirations while the Browns are competing for the No. 1 pick. Hasselbeck said later that he hurt his jaw. He holds there isn’t a drastic change in the receivers group, saying it’s always been there – they’re just getting more opportunities.
The Texans wouldn’t allow it.
Baldwin caught two first-half touchdown passes, and Seattle took advantage of a late defensive penalty to kick a field goal on the final play of the second quarter as the Seahawks pulled out to a 20-10 halftime lead. Novak’s late 32-yard field goal closed it out.
Offered Carroll: “The efficiency of the offense is the best it’s been since we’ve been here”. That’s not going to be because we’re going to take a step off of the gas pedal right now. Only the great Jerry Rice can make the same claim.
Russell Wilson and a slew of receivers kept the chains moving in the face of a Browns pass rush that brought constant pressure.
