MEETING THE MATILDAS US Women to face Australia twice
This will be the first time the USA women have played in Alabama in over seven years since they beat Australia at Legion Field in 2008.
The Federation Internationale de Football Association Women’s World Cup champions are playing a match for their fans in Alabama as part of their national victory tour.
The United States of America will face Women’s World Cup quarterfinalist Australia on Thursday, September 17, at Ford Field in Detroit (7 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1).
Tickets for the September games go on sale to the public Friday, July 31, at 10 a.m. local time at ussoccer.com. For the event in Birmingham, tickets are also available by phone at 1-800-745-3000 and at all Ticketmaster ticket centers (including Publix and Walmart locations).
The Americans will open the tour on August 16 against Costa Rica at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
The match is part of a ten-city tour and celebration of the team’s championship victory in the 2015 Federation Internationale de Football Association Women’s World Cup. The two teams will meet again on August 19 for an already sold-out match at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Detroit didn’t get to play host to any 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches but worldwide soccer is set to return to the city in just a matter of months.
