Israeli police say they killed Palestinian attempting ramming attack
JERUSALEM (AP) – Four Palestinians were killed on Thursday, among them three who Israel said were carrying out attacks on soldiers in the West Bank, the latest in a three month-long wave of unrelenting Israeli-Palestinian violence.
Israeli forces Thursday shot dead an unidentified Palestinian man near the illegal settlement of Adam, located on the land of Jaba town, northwest of Jerusalem.
The Israeli military said that hundreds of Palestinians had gathered near the border and were trying to damage the fence by hurling rocks and rolling burning tires at it, and to prevent infiltration, soldiers opened fire at the main instigators.
Medical officials in Gaza city said that Hani Wahdan, 22, was killed after Israeli soldiers shot him during the clashes east of Al Shuja’eya neighborhood east of Gaza city.
Israeli authorities said that three Palestinians were killed after they carried out or attempted to carry out attacks against Israelis across the West Bank. The military said troops responded by firing at the gunmen.
Palestinians have killed 20 Israelis and a U.S. citizen in the same period, raising fears of a wider escalation, a decade after the last Palestinian uprising subsided.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri says a driver sped toward Israeli forces who were controlling rioting Palestinian youth in the village of Silwad north of Ramallah on Friday.
Israeli leaders says Islamist groups who call for the destruction of Israel have played a major role in inciting the recent violence.
Also Thursday, police said they were investigating the “many serious offenses” seen in a video of extremist Jews aired Wednesday on Israeli Channel 10 TV.
