NFL Upholds OBJ Suspension After Appeal
After the verdict was handed down, Bekcham released a statement apologizing to his teammates, the Giants organization, and to the fans of the National Football League, saying he “dropped the ball on sportsmanship on Sunday”.
Michael Reaves/GettyFollowing a report that Carolina Panthers players were threatening Odell Beckham Jr. and directing homophobic slurs toward him, NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin says Beckham has a target on his back unlike anything he’s ever seen.
“Beckham was wrong and we said that was wrong from Day 1, but there were factors involved, starting in pre-game….”
He should have been suspended two games.
“They can try to spin it or twist and make it seem like we’re the bad guys here when it was clearly, who was the one that was acting out a little bit?” veteran Panthers safety Roman Harper told reporters on Wednesday.
Compared to Beckham, who will miss a crucial game as his team barely clings on to their playoff hopes barring an appeal attempt Wednesday, Norman got off easy.
Panthers Coach Ron Rivera said the team has used the baseball bat as a prop all season.
A Giants source told ESPN, “that Giants players on the field heard Panthers defensive players direct anti-gay slurs and expletives at Beckham before the game”.
NFL VP of Officiating Dean Blandino admitted Tuesday Beckham should’ve been ejected for his on-field behavior.
The coach said the Giants have approached the league office to explain their side of Sunday’s events.
– Saints coach Sean Payton said Wednesday that it remains unclear whether quarterback Drew Brees will play in Sunday’s home finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Beckham’s not only a flashy player, he often celebrates after catches, and he seemingly has different end zone dances after every touchdown. “He never swung it at Odell or anything like that but it was there, it was present”. “Ya’ll don’t even know me”.
“Odell said to him, ‘Why are you not playing?'” Wing said.
“I owe some people an apology”, Beckham said.
In retrospect, he agrees that the incident might have shaken Beckham more than anyone realized. They’re probably going to send me something about that… but I’m going to appeal it, and I’m going to get my justified case about the whole situation.
“There were no flags, no help or any intervention by the officials so I think that kind of just let Odell know what kind of day it was going to be and if anyone was going to stick up for Odell, it had to be himself”. “It’s part of the game”, Wallace said.
