Virginia Tech suspends three players before bowl
The legendary coach’s career will come to an end as he leads his team into battle against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the 2015 Camping World Independence Bowl.
Deon Clarke, shown a year ago, started all but one game during this past regular season and ranked second on the team with 77 tackles. Tech is set to face Tulsa (6-6, 6-5-1 ATS), which is looking to spoil Beamer’s farewell and earn a big win on a national stage.
Knowles was late to meetings and practices and actually didn’t travel to the bowl site, so he knew he wouldn’t be playing for some time.
“To me, all those little things are a sign of this game is important, or not important”, Coach Frank Beamer said Friday. All three seniors’ college careers are over. The Golden Hurricane (6-6, 3-5 C-USA) are postseason bound for the 20th time in program history and for the first time since 2012. Tulsa has undoubtedly relied extremely heavily on their passing game this season, but the Hokies have been extremely deft in stopping the pass this season. Clarke also was benched for a half against Georgia Tech for disciplinary reasons.
Michael Brewer and the Hokies will be fired up for Beamer’s final game, but two touchdowns against a good offensive team looks like a good play. The coach will have some tricks up his sleeve and, ultimately, will lead Virginia Tech to one last victory in the Independence Bowl.
