Mine collapse in China leaves 19 missing; 6 workers located
RESCUERS are working to pull out six workers and are searching for another 19 after a mine collapsed in the eastern province of Shandong in China.
One miner has been confirmed dead among 17 others trapped in a collapsed gypsum mine in east China. Ten of them were rescued on the same day.
Altogether 29 people were working in the shaft when the collapse happened at about 7:56 am at the gypsum in Baotai Township, Pingyi County, a county government spokesman said.
Six people were rescued on Friday. One more miner, whose leg was trapped by a boulder, was rescued early this morning.
However, continuous deformation of the tunnel and falling rocks are hindering the rescue efforts, experts of the rescue team said, adding that the cause for the collapse is still under investigation.
Four miners were successfully lifted to surface after the accident on Friday, leaving 25 others still trapped, CCTV said.
The shock affected local rail services as 10 freight trains were halted and eight passenger trains delayed.
The Local railway authority said all services had resumed as of noon on Friday。.
