Rain continues, record warmth possible on Christmas Eve
All week long we have been looking for some good in our forecast and just in time for Christmas Eve, one of those “quiet” periods of weather has arrived.
Depending on whom you asked, the weather outside was either frightful or delightful.
Christmas Eve records could also fall in Texas and along the Gulf Coast, and much of the US Midwest will see higher-than-average temperatures, according to Weather.com.
New York City is having its warmest Christmas Eve on record.
It seems possible that when the final numbers are in, highs in parts of the state could tie temperatures recorded on this past 4th of July.
Jim Mitchell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Buffalo, said a warm front that moved through Western New York Thursday morning would give way to cooler temperatures Thursday afternoon.
Southern Californians seeking a taste of winter weather will get their wish this Christmas as a cold storm system swings through the region, bringing chilly temperatures, rain and even snow in the mountains.
“The cold air is in the west and the warm air is in the north”, Gill said. Many of them were part of the annual Mechley family Christmas Eve morning gathering.
“Probably zero”, in fact, according to Jessica Winton, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Morristown.
Not only have the daytime temperatures been warm, but the nighttime lows in many locations have been running 10 degrees above the normal daily high temperature.
All told, forecasters say, this will be the warmest Christmas Day on record for many cities up and down the East Coast, where temperatures will be between 15 and 25 degrees higher than normal this time of year.

“This combination of rain, snow and wind will make for potentially hazardous conditions for holiday travel”, the outlook said.

Saturday’s temperatures could reach 48 degrees, and Sunday’s high will be about 42.
